If you procrastinated on putting a deposit down on one of John Cush’s condos at Ridgeway Square, 719 Marshall St., you are officially out of luck. The final two of the six custom condos, have sold. The spaces combine the best of the old – high ceilings, old brick walls and tin ceiling tiles- with new, vintage-look appliances, high end finishes and cool touches like pipe ladders leading to hidden second levels and big claw-foot tubs. The spaces ranged in size from nearly 2500 SF to a small studio just large enough for a Murphy Bed, but sporting a huge window, a giant soaking tub and a fun galley kitchen. Cush is building out two apartments there and some commercial space on the ground floor.

Builder John Cush is at it again. After renovating 721 Marshall Street, the former Ridgways’ Custom Reprographics business into Ridgeway Square condos, Cush has turned his attention to the adjacent building. 719 Marshall will be the for lease retail/office component of the project, and Cush is ready to build to suit. The space is light, bright, big and open with tall ceilings and century-old bricks.
It looks out over the beautiful Once in a Millennium Moon mural on the AT&T building
and features an outdoor patio/seating area that would be perfect for a restaurant/bar/deli concept.
Cush plans to add a mezzanine that will bring the total square footage to roughly 4200′. There is ample parking streetside and just across the street on several surface lots.

A Little Bit O’ History
The first listing we see for 719 Marshall Street is in 1921 as Chain Battery System of Shreveport. Chain Battery was so popular that by 1923, the company had added a second floor onto the building. By 1930, you could purchase your Desoto or Plymouth Arrow at Wood Motors Inc. Over the years several different automotive supply and garages were located there including Erskine’s Battery and Electrical Company which also did auto repairs and offered one year of ‘free recharging’ of batteries bought there. All that came to an end in 1958, when Ridgway’s moved in and became the space’s longest- running tenant. Many may remember Ridgways as the place to get architectural blueprints, brochures and books printed, but the original Ridgeway’s featured a complete line of artist supplies including palettes, paint sets and brushes as Mrs. Lila Efurd and Mrs. Helen Smart can attest.
Ridgway’s stayed at the address until moving its store in 2017. The two buildings sat vacant until being purchased by Cush for a combination condo-apartment-retail or office space. Crews have more to do there; work will happen next on two for-lease apartment units and Cush’s own living space on the second floor of 719 Marshall St. Stay tuned for updates on these properties because there is more to come!
